Don’t tell the Reagan Raiders that the Southwest Guilford boys basketball team was undefeated at 27-0 going into Wednesday night’s second round of the NCHSAA Playoffs.  Coming into the Cowboys home gym wasn’t going to be easy for the Raiders.  And it wasn’t.

But when the final buzzer sounded the Raiders had surprised the Cowboys with a 63-59 win to move into the next round of the playoffs.

Reagan held Terrell Leach, Southwest’s Mr. Everything, to just 20 points on the night with aggressive defense and not letting Leach get comfortable in his game.

Leach was the game’s high scorer while Evan Peatross and Matt Edwards each had 13 points to lead Reagan.

In the end the Reagan players just wanted it more than the Cowboys.  Neither team could pull away, with the highest lead of the night being five points, in favor of SW.

When the game was on the line Reagan converted 8 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter alone, and that proved to be just enough to send the Cowboys packing.

The loss brings to a close a great season by the Cowboys.  Going 27-1 isn’t too shabby.  And to the rest of the competition, look out for Reagan!
