Christian Jenkins, a senior lineman from the Glenn Bobcat football team, has signed on with the Ferrum Panthers to further his academic and athletic career beyond high school.  Ferrum is a Division III college located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwestern Virginia.

A large group of Bobcat team mates, coaches and friends, gathered in the coaches office on Wednesday afternoon to witness Christian’s signing with Ferrum College.

“Christian is a great student academically and with his size he will fit into the football program well at Ferrum,” said Glenn Bobcat head coach Aldine Payne.  ”The coaches at Ferrum are excited about Christian, they know that they are getting more than just a football player with Christian, he is a nice young man that has his priorities in order,” added Payne.   “Colleges are looking for “athletes”, not just position players, and Christian fits that category, he can play on both sides of the ball and that will help him a lot in college.”   “It has been a pleasure to coach Chris and I know that he will be successful both on and off the football field.”

Jenkins will major in pre-med at Ferrum, hoping to ultimately become an orthopedic surgeon, but he says “by majoring in pre-med that pretty much opens up a lot of options in the medical field.”

“I didn’t know too much about Ferrum until they came down to visit me,” said Jenkins, “I went online and learned a lot about the school.”  Jenkins says that when he made the visit to the campus he “already felt a part of the football team.”  ”I’m really excited about going to Ferrum.”

“The biggest challenge that I will face is being away from my family and friends,  but I will become a part of the family at Ferrum and I’m looking forward to the opportunity,” Jenkins said. “Not having someone looking over my shoulder will also present a challenge, having the freedom to make decisions on my own, but I think it will be a good experience.”

Chris may get a chance to play right away, “If I keep everything up in the weight room.” Jenkins says that Ferrum runs a spread offense and they platoon about 10 offensive linemen during the game and he hopes to be in that group

Chris says that he really appreciated the way he was accepted into the Glenn family and that he will miss being around kids that he has known since elementary school.  ”I have great memories from Glenn but now we are all starting to go our separate ways, but I will always remember my Glenn family,” Jenkins said.

We wish Chris good luck at Ferrum.
