Glenn senior infielder Shane Billings has accepted a scholarship offer to play baseball for the Wingate University Bull

dogs next year. Billings signed his letter of intent on Wednesday afternoon in front of family and friends on the campus of Glenn High School.

Shane is excited about his opportunity to play at the next level and is looking to contribute right away to the Bulldog program. “I'm not sure of the position that I will play in college, but I enjoy being a utility player, I'll play wherever they want me to play.”

Billings says that he considers his

hitting as his strength, “my dad has been coaching me on hitting since I was old enough to hold a baseball bat.”

One of Shane's fondest memories as a Bobcat came when he was called up to the varsity as a freshman, “I was playing short stop and a hard line drive was hit up the middle and I caught it on the other side of second base, I was able to spin around and turn the double play with the bases loaded and save the game for Glenn.” Billings also recalls last season as pretty memorable when his hitting was “really good”.

According to Glenn head baseball coach John Fowler, Wingate will be extremely pleased with their choice to bring Shane into their program. “Shane is a complete player, he is a flat out hitter and colleges are looking for hitters. Shane brings to the table more than just being an outstanding baseball player, he has a great attitude and possesses great athleticism, I can see Shane contributing from day one.”

Shane plans to major in criminal justice and maybe someday pursue a career in the Secret Service. “I would like to play baseball beyond college, but if that doesn't work out I'll have something to fall back on.”

Glenn fans will have one more season to see Shane in action in the spring of 2013 before he transitions from a Bobcat to a Bulldog.

Congratulations and good luck Shane!
