No deja vu for the ‘cats….
The East Forsyth Eagles ran by, around, and through the Glenn Bobcats on Thursday night in a semifinal tournament game in the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference. The Eagles added an exclamation point to the 72-53 rout when Terry Hairston’s three point shot found the net as the final buzzer sounded.
The Eagles came out and took this game away from a listless Bobcat squad. The shots were not falling for Glenn as their leading scorers struggled to put points on the board.
Glenn got off to a shaky start and was down by 15 points at the end of the first period. It was not the same team that showed up last Friday night at Glenn. It also wasn’t the same Eagle team. East seemed to want this game just a little bit more than Glenn and once they forged ahead, they never looked back.
The fact that Glenn’s two big men, Trey Lofton and Zane Waterman were each held to just 11 points kept the Bobcats under control the entire game. There was plenty of contact under the boards, on both ends, and East’s aggressive defense didn’t allow Glenn to make the easy buckets.
The one bright spot for the Bobcat offense was senior point guard Matt Hodges, who led all scorers with 16 points.
East also had three players hit double figures, led by Larry Curry with 15, P.J. Jones with 14, and Craig Hinton with 12.
It was a tough night for the #1 seeded Bobcats, “Disappointed,” was Coach Monty Gray’s comment as he left the court at the end of the game. On the other side, it was a great win for East Forsyth.
East will now face Southwest Guilford in the championship game at 7:30pm Friday night. Glenn will play a tiebreaker game with Northwest Guilford on Friday at 4:30pm. All games will be played at Southwest Guilford.
